The Summoning Review

Rating: ♥♥♥♥♥

Pub July 1rst/2008
390 pages

My name is Chloe Saunders and my life will never be the same again.
All I wanted was to make friends, meet boys, and keep on being ordinary. I don't even know what that means anymore. It all started on the day that I saw my first ghost—and the ghost saw me.
Now there are ghosts everywhere and they won't leave me alone. To top it all off, I somehow got myself locked up in Lyle House, a "special home" for troubled teens. Yet the home isn't what it seems. Don't tell anyone, but I think there might be more to my housemates than meets the eye. The question is, whose side are they on? It's up to me to figure out the dangerous secrets behind Lyle House… before its skeletons come back to haunt me.

I read this a long time ago but I thought I'd do a review on it anyway. I remember I wasn't sure if I'd like this series, but I bought this book (#1) and the 2nd one at the same time. As soon as I started reading the first page of this book, I was immediately drawn in and i couldn't stop reading it! I finished it in two days, it is one of the best books in this genre I have ever read! Chloe is an awesome character and very relate-able. She gets sent to this house for troubled kids, even though it's actually for "special" kids with powers and special abilities. Her two best friends end up being 2 brothers, and they find a way to escape Lyle House. It's at the Lyle House where Chloe first discovers her real abilities, not just being able to see ghosts. Right away in the first chapter things start happening. There are a couple slow parts but none that make you want to fall asleep because they drag out so long. I devoured this book and had to read the 2nd one as soon as I finished this one!

New Release

Here by Denise Grover Swank (Book #1)

Released: Nov 7th/2011
350 pages

What It's About!

Sixteen year old Julia Phillips buries herself in guilt after killing her best friend Monica in a car accident. Julia awoke in the hospital with a broken leg, a new talent for drawing and false memories of the accident, in which she dies and Monica lives. The doctors attribute this to her head injury, but no one can explain how a bracelet engraved with her name ended up at the scene of the accident. A bracelet no one has ever seen before.

Classmate Evan Whittaker paid Julia no attention before the accident, let alone after. Now suddenly he’s volunteering to tutor her and offering to drive her home. She can't ignore that his new obsession started after his two-day disappearance last week and that he wears a pendant she’s been drawing for months. When the police show up one night looking for Evan, he begs Julia to run with him, convincing her that Monica is still alive. Julia agrees to go, never guessing where he’s really from.

Upcoming Release!

Touch of Power by Maria V. Snyder

Release Date: Dec 20th/2011
400 pages

My Thoughts:
I've actually got this as an ebook for review. I took a sneak peak and read the first 4 or 5 pages (I was just gonna read the first paragraph!) and it pulled me in right away. I wanna read it so bad right now but I'm already trying to read a couple books for review! Definitely reading this next though!

What It's About!

Laying hands upon the injured and dying, Avry of Kazan assumes their wounds and diseases into herself. But rather than being honored for her skills, she is hunted. Healers like Avry are accused of spreading the plague that has decimated the Territories, leaving the survivors in a state of chaos.

Stressed and tired from hiding, Avry is abducted by a band of rogues who, shockingly, value her gift above the golden bounty offered for her capture. Their leader, an enigmatic captor-protector with powers of his own, is unequivocal in his demands: Avry must heal a plague-stricken prince—leader of a campaign against her people. As they traverse the daunting Nine Mountains, beset by mercenaries and magical dangers, Avry must decide who is worth healing and what is worth dying for. Because the price of peace may well be her life...

Matched Review

Rating: ♥♥♥♥♥

Cassia has always trusted the Society to make the right choices for her: what to read, what to watch, what to believe. So when Xander's face appears on-screen at her Matching ceremony, Cassia knows with complete certainty that he is her ideal mate... until she sees Ky Markham's face flash for an instant before the screen fades to black.
The Society tells her it's a glitch, a rare malfunction, and that she should focus on the happy life she's destined to lead with Xander. But Cassia can't stop thinking about Ky, and as they slowly fall in love, Cassia begins to doubt the Society's infallibility and is faced with an impossible choice: between Xander and Ky, between the only life she's known and a path that no one else has dared to follow.

Three words: SO.FREAKING.AMAZING.! I have never read anything like this! At the start of the book it was hard to read after I got into it a bit, just because everyone is controlled by the Society and Officials and nobody really has an actual choice. Life is pretty much the same day to day, not a hair out of place. If it is, there is usually trouble to follow. When Cassia and Xander are Matched at the Match Banquet, I was so 'Team Xander', but by the time I finished the last page of the novel, HELLO, 'Team Ky' here! I love Xander but he's more like the child hood best friend, practically your brother, I think there's more sparks between Cassia and Ky than with Xander. I love how as the novel goes on, Cassia starts to come out of her shell more and more and starts to see things the way they really are. I got so emotionally into this book, especially in certain parts like when her grandpa dies and gives her that poem out of her compact that's not one of the 'hundred poems', or when Ky was being taken away from the neighborhood, omg, so heartbreaking! I HAVE to read Crossed book #2 ASAP! This novel does not disappoint...so go read it! :)

My Thoughts:
This book sounds A.M.A.Z.I.N.G.!

What It's About!

Two days before the start of her junior year, seventeen-year-old Janelle Tenner is hit by a pickup truck and killed—as in blinding light, scenes of her life flashing before her, and then nothing. And even though it isn’t possible, Janelle knows—with every fiber of her being—that Ben has somehow brought her back to life. But her reincarnation, and Ben’s possible role in it, is only the first of the puzzles that Janelle must solve. And when someone close to Janelle is killed, she can no longer deny what’s right in front of her: Everything that’s happened—the accident, the murder, the countdown clock, Ben’s sudden appearance in her life—points to the end of life as she knows it. And as the clock ticks down, she realizes that if she wants to put a stop to the end of the world, she’s going to need to uncover Ben’s secrets—and keep from falling in love with him in the process. From debut author Elizabeth Norris comes this shattering novel of one girl’s fight to save herself, her world, and the one boy she never saw coming.

Upcoming 2012 Release

Something Strange & Deadly by Susan Dennard

Release Date: July 2012
Pages *unknown-check back soon*

My Thoughts:
I know a lot of people are tired of the girls in dresses covers, but I never tire of them lol. I totally love the cover on this, and according to a lot of reviews on goodreads, the book itself is just as good as the cover. I'm so excited for this one, it looks really good!

What It's About!

There’s something strange and deadly loose in Philadelphia…

Eleanor Fitt has a lot to worry about. Her brother has gone missing, her family has fallen on hard times, and her mother is determined to marry her off to any rich young man who walks by. But this is nothing compared to what she’s just read in the newspaper—

Whoever is controlling the Dead army has taken her brother as well. If Eleanor is going to find him, she’ll have to venture into the lab of the notorious Spirit-Hunters, who protect the city from supernatural forces. Upcoming 2012 Release

The Calling (Darkness Rising #2) by Kelley Armstrong

Release Date: April 10th/2012
400 pages

My Thoughts:
I ssoooo can't wait for this book!!!! I think the cover could have shown less of her face though, left something to the imagination a little bit! It's really pretty coloring though. This one will probably be better than the first book, Kelley Armstrong seems to like taking the whole first book in a series to get her story started and then right at the end of the 1rst book she makes it start to get really good then it ends! I noticed this with The Gathering and The Summoning, both are the first in a trilogy.

What It's About!

In The Calling, the sizzling second book in the Darkness Rising trilogy, New York Times bestselling author Kelley Armstrong pumps up the romance, danger, and suspense that left readers of The Gathering clamoring for more.

Maya Delaney’s paw-print birthmark is the sign of what she truly is—a skin-walker. She can run faster, climb higher, and see better than nearly anyone else. Experiencing intense connections with the animals that roam the woods outside her home, Maya knows it’s only a matter of time before she’s able to Shift and become one of them. And she believes there may be others in her small town with surprising talents.

Now, Maya and her friends have been forced to flee from their homes during a forest fire they suspect was deliberately set. Then they’re kidnapped, and after a chilling helicopter crash, they find themselves in the Vancouver Island wilderness with nothing but their extraordinary abilities to help them get back home. Plentiful action and romance in this second installment in the Darkness Rising series will keep readers enthralled to the very last page!

For Review

For review from the author, I have Darwin's Children and Unnatural Law. Big thanx to Natasha Larry!

Published June 28th/2011
262 pages

What It's About!

Life can get pretty complicated for any seventeen-year-old girl, but for a home-schooled telepathic black girl trying to survive in a prestigious private school in small-town Jonesborough, Tennessee, it can be maddening; especially when her telepathic father keeps eavesdropping on her thoughts!
Jaycie Lerner's family isn't the usual mom-dad-kid setup. Jaycie's mom is MIA, but Allison, her personal live-in trainer, is more than a mom, with her own special abilities, like being able to lift cars and run incredibly fast. And Jaycie's godfather John is more than persuasive; he can literally convince anyone to do anything. As far as the rest of the world's concerned, Jaycie's on the outside looking in. The townsfolk love Jaycie's paediatrician father, but she doesn't fit in with "normal" kids, and she doesn't really want to. Most of her free time is spent training to keep her telekinetic and telepathic powers under control. But there's one thing she can't control; and that's her feelings, especially when her best friend Matt is nearby. If only he knew what she was truly capable of...

 Unnatural Law (Book #2)

Release date and page info currently unavailable

What It's About!

Seventeen-year-old Jaycie Lerner’s psycho-kinetic power surge is over, and her astounding powers are under control for the time being – sort of. As she struggles to maintain her humanity in the face of the awesome terror and responsibility of her abilities, she also yearns for the chance at a normal life – and a relationship with Matt Carter, the best friend she had to leave behind. But Matt’s got a few tricks up his sleeve, and he’s not about to give up on his feelings for Jaycie.
As Jaycie and her family grapple with the day-to-day routine of trying to keep their world together, Jaycie’s mother figure, Allison Young, endures a personal crisis of her own. The superhuman blonde possesses the physical equivalent of Jaycie’s awesome psychic power.
So evolved, at ninety-two she still looks twenty. But what good is extended life when everyone else around her is so fragile? With no one to share her unusual life, she’s a uniquely lonely woman yearning for the romantic love she sees all around her. But in a dream she gets her wish – and it quickly turns to a nightmare for everyone else in her life. The memory of a rose is all she can hold onto in the storm of obsession that nearly sweeps her away.
Things quickly turn deadly for the vampires, but the Dey-Vah Guard fairies refuse to acknowledge there’s an imbalance in the nature they protect. As the danger gets ever closer to Jaycie and her family, the race is on to find answers before a secret plot can destroy them

Marked Review

Rating: ♥♥♥

A copy was provided for review

Marked by Jessica Gibson is a paranormal romance about a woman named Jilly and her best friend Emily. They're both witches who run a hair salon, and help people by making protection charms from potions they make. One day out of the blue, William shows up at the salon and it's almost instant attraction between him and Jilly. Then Jilly starts to have these weird dreams that she finds out later are actually memories someone is sort of putting her in so she can see the parts of the past someone wants her to see. William is a Time Walker, he is immortal and has lived for a couple hundred years. He starts to trust Jilly and tell her a bit of his background, and it seems as if Sabine, another Time Walker from his past, has some alternative motives..

The story has very good potential, and a very good story line, but it feels like we are not given enough background information about the characters. On the first page, the story plunges right in, and just keeps going. Some books have too much explanation in them, but this one doesn't seem to have any, really. As you read through the story, you start to understand the characters by how they act and what they say, but that's really all there is to go on. Jilly is the most hardest character to get to know, I think. You see everything from her point of view, but she never really explains who she is or how her and Emily's salon got started or nothing. She talks out loud to herself a lot, where as most characters just think it in their head. This drove me a little crazy lol. I really wanted to like this book but there's just not enough to go on, I feel like I'm always missing something, like the characters know something I don't I guess. Overall, it is a pretty good book but it could have more stuff to build it up a little bit instead of diving right in and leaving the reader hanging.

New Lauren Conrad Series!

The Fame Game by Lauren Conrad (Book #1)

Release Date: April 3rd/2012
352 pages

My Thoughts:
I haven't read Lauren's first trilogy because they were all basically about her life on Mtv's The Hills show, just names and characters were changed to make it seem like it wasn't. But honestly, I think I'm gonna give this series a try, maybe since she hasn't been on The Hills for a while, it will have rubbed off and not into the pages of her books! ~Sorry there's not much of a description, it's the best I could find so far!~

What It's About!

The new series about life in the spotlight by television star, fashion designer, and #1 New York Times bestselling author of L.A. Candy, Lauren Conrad. And this time there’s nothing sweet about it.
