I read this a long time ago but I thought I'd do a review on it anyway. I remember I wasn't sure if I'd like this series, but I bought this book (#1) and the 2nd one at the same time. As soon as I started reading the first page of this book, I was immediately drawn in and i couldn't stop reading it! I finished it in two days, it is one of the best books in this genre I have ever read! Chloe is an awesome character and very relate-able. She gets sent to this house for troubled kids, even though it's actually for "special" kids with powers and special abilities. Her two best friends end up being 2 brothers, and they find a way to escape Lyle House. It's at the Lyle House where Chloe first discovers her real abilities, not just being able to see ghosts. Right away in the first chapter things start happening. There are a couple slow parts but none that make you want to fall asleep because they drag out so long. I devoured this book and had to read the 2nd one as soon as I finished this one!

I've actually got this as an ebook for review. I took a sneak peak and read the first 4 or 5 pages (I was just gonna read the first paragraph!) and it pulled me in right away. Three words: SO.FREAKING.AMAZING.! I have never read anything like this! At the start of the book it was hard to read after I got into it a bit, just because everyone is controlled by the Society and Officials and nobody really has an actual choice. Life is pretty much the same day to day, not a hair out of place. If it is, there is usually trouble to follow. When Cassia and Xander are Matched at the Match Banquet, I was so 'Team Xander', but by the time I finished the last page of the novel, HELLO, 'Team Ky' here! I love Xander but he's more like the child hood best friend, practically your brother, I think there's more sparks between Cassia and Ky than with Xander. I love how as the novel goes on, Cassia starts to come out of her shell more and more and starts to see things the way they really are. I got so emotionally into this book, especially in certain parts like when her grandpa dies and gives her that poem out of her compact that's not one of the 'hundred poems', or when Ky was being taken away from the neighborhood, omg, so heartbreaking! I HAVE to read Crossed book #2 ASAP! This novel does not disappoint...so go read it! :)

I just bought it for $5.44 from the book depository and it's FREE SHIPPING on EVERYTHING. I have to admit, I freaked out a little bit when I seen how cheap this book was, the lowest I've seen it was probably $11 even on the book depository. :D

My Thoughts:

I ssoooo can't wait for this book!!!! I think the cover could have shown less of her face though, left something to the imagination a little bit! It's really pretty coloring though. This one will probably be better than the first book, Kelley Armstrong seems to like taking the whole first book in a series to get her story started and then right at the end of the 1rst book she makes it start to get really good then it ends! I noticed this with The Gathering and The Summoning, both are the first in a trilogy.

Marked by Jessica Gibson is a paranormal romance about a woman named Jilly and her best friend Emily. They're both witches who run a hair salon, and help people by making protection charms from potions they make. One day out of the blue, William shows up at the salon and it's almost instant attraction between him and Jilly. Then Jilly starts to have these weird dreams that she finds out later are actually memories someone is sort of putting her in so she can see the parts of the past someone wants her to see. William is a Time Walker, he is immortal and has lived for a couple hundred years. He starts to trust Jilly and tell her a bit of his background, and it seems as if Sabine, another Time Walker from his past, has some alternative motives..

The story has very good potential, and a very good story line, but it feels like we are not given enough background information about the characters. On the first page, the story plunges right in, and just keeps going. Some books have too much explanation in them, but this one doesn't seem to have any, really. As you read through the story, you start to understand the characters by how they act and what they say, but that's really all there is to go on. Jilly is the most hardest character to get to know, I think. You see everything from her point of view, but she never really explains who she is or how her and Emily's salon got started or nothing. She talks out loud to herself a lot, where as most characters just think it in their head. This drove me a little crazy lol. I really wanted to like this book but there's just not enough to go on, I feel like I'm always missing something, like the characters know something I don't I guess. Overall, it is a pretty good book but it could have more stuff to build it up a little bit instead of diving right in and leaving the reader hanging.
