Born At Midnight Review

Rating:♥♥♥

One night Kylie Galen finds herself at the wrong party, with the wrong people, and it changes her life forever.  Her mother ships her off to Shadow Falls—a camp for troubled teens, and within hours of arriving, it becomes painfully clear that her fellow campers aren’t just “troubled.”  Here at Shadow Falls, vampires, werewolves, shapshifters, witches and fairies train side by side—learning to harness their powers, control their magic and live in the normal world.
Kylie’s never felt normal, but surely she doesn’t belong here with a bunch of paranormal freaks either.  Or does she?  They insist Kylie is one of them, and that she was brought here for a reason.  As if life wasn’t complicated enough, enter Derek and Lucas.  Derek’s a half-fae who’s determined to be her boyfriend, and Lucas is a smokin’ hot werewolf with whom Kylie shares a secret past.  Both Derek and Lucas couldn’t be more different, but they both have a powerful hold on her heart. Even though Kylie feels deeply uncertain about everything, one thing is becoming painfully clear—Shadow Falls is exactly where she belongs…

This took me probably about 2 weeks to read lol. It's pretty good, but I wasn't reading it every chance I got, I think it's because I read Touch of Power by Maria V. Snyder at the same time I fell in love with it, so it was hard to go back and forth to this one. I found Kylie kind of hard to connect to, and she was a bit annoying. Instead of having a thought and moving on, it felt like it took a whole page or two dissecting every little thing a guy did, what he said, etc. Like get over it already.  It was also a bit frustrating how she couldn't just accept she's a paranormal, drove me a bit nuts.

Other than that though, it had a good pace and didn't waver from the main story too much. A few "big things" happen, but not really too much. I got excited a few times but I never really got pulled in like I wanted to. I think I'm still gonna buy Awake At Dawn, though, to see where things have gone from here. Could have been a little faster paced, but it was pretty good.

Guardian by Gillian Joy

What It's About!

When Psyche receives a prophecy gone horribly wrong, she learns that even the most beautiful girl in Greece can have a hideous future. Her fate? Fall in love with the one creature even the gods fear.

As she feels herself slipping closer into the arms of the prophecy, Psyche must choose between the terrifyingly tender touch she feels almost powerless to resist and the one constant she's come to expect out of life: you cannot escape what is destined.

What It's About!

Headstrong and determined, Hannah always knew that she would become the Guardian. She was the keeper and the protector of all supernatural beings. What she didn't expect was that it would mean she would have to endure the agonizing death of her mother first hand as their supernatural connection brings her to her knees, or that it would mean that she could never be with the man she loved.
Blond haired, blue eyed Gabriel was her handsome childhood friend, but would circumstances prevent her from ever being able to explore her true feelings for him?
Jesse, the dark alluring but incorrigible vampire would give anything to be with her, but as the guardian Hannah is forbidden to fall in love with the supernatural.
With her life in turmoil over her conflicting emotions about Gabriel and Jesse and her frustration at being unable to exact revenge for her mother’s horrific death, Hannah flees her life in an attempt to start over. But can we ever really escape from ourselves?
There is no escape...

My Thoughts:
I am ssooooo so excited that I got these books for review! They both look amazing, I've wanted to read Destined since it was first out in the blogsphere, but I'm just as excited to read Guardian! Thanks again to Gillian Joy and Jessie Harrell for letting me read and review them!

Touch Of Power Review

Laying hands upon the injured and dying, Avry of Kazan assumes their wounds and diseases into herself. But rather than being honored for her skills, she is hunted. Healers like Avry are accused of spreading the plague that has decimated the Territories, leaving the survivors in a state of chaos.
Stressed and tired from hiding, Avry is abducted by a band of rogues who, shockingly, value her gift above the golden bounty offered for her capture. Their leader, an enigmatic captor-protector with powers of his own, is unequivocal in his demands: Avry must heal a plague-stricken prince—leader of a campaign against her people. As they traverse the daunting Nine Mountains, beset by mercenaries and magical dangers, Avry must decide who is worth healing and what is worth dying for. Because the price of peace may well be her life...

I was attached to this book from beginning to end! It was kind of surprising, I had tried reading Maria's Poison Study a long time ago, but could never really get into it, so I was really unsure about this novel but thought I'd give it a whirl anyway. Seriously, best book EVER! Well, least that I've read lately! This book was such an adventure, there's always something going on or happening.

Avry is one of my most favorite characters, she never complains, even when she's close to dieing. She cried a few times but I cried right along with her! She starts off on her own, running for her life, healing children and babies when she can. Then she gets caught by the people and is to be executed the next day. This and a few other things all happen within the first chapter! Right away it's a whirlwind all in itself. The rest of the book never slows down, it was such a ride, I loved every minute of it. I especially loved how Kerrick started out as a cranky, no-fun, stick-in-the-mud, then slowly turns around and there may or may not be a little somethin' between Kerrick and Avry. This book is definitely at the top of my fav book list, for sure.

WHY DID A SPOT OPEN UP AT MANDERLEY ACADEMY?
I hadn't wanted to go, but my parents were so excited…. So here I am, the new girl at Manderley, a true fish out of water. But mine's not the name on everyone's lips. Oh, no.
It's Becca Normandy they can't stop talking about. Perfect, beautiful Becca. She went missing at the end of last year, leaving a spot open at Manderley-the spot that I got. And everyone acts like it's my fault that infallible, beloved Becca is gone and has been replaced by not perfect, completely fallible, unknown Me.
Then, there's the name on my lips-Max Holloway. Becca's ex. The one boy I should avoid, but can't. Thing is, it seems like he wants me, too. But the memory of Becca is always between us. And as much I'm starting to like it at Manderley, I can't help but think she's out there, somewhere, watching me take her place.
Waiting to take it back.
