What's Your Opinion?

My Soul To Take by Rachel Vincent

She doesn't see dead people. She senses when someone near her is about to die. And when that happens, a force beyond her control compels her to scream bloody murder. Literally.

Kaylee just wants to enjoy having caught the attention of the hottest guy in school. But a normal date is hard to come by when Nash seems to know more about her need to scream than she does. And when classmates start dropping dead for no apparent reason, only Kaylee knows who'll be next.

Just wanted to know what you guys thought about this book/series? I've heard a lot about them and supposedly they're really good. There's been a few times I've checked them out at the book store but I'm never really sure if it's worth it or not, so I wanted to see if any of you have read them yet and wanna know what you think of this series! Good? Bad? In-Between? Let me know! :)

Blue Bloods (#1) Review

Rating: ♥♥♥♥♥

When the Mayflower set sail in 1620, it carried on board the men and women who would shape America: Miles Standish; John Alden; Constance Hopkins. But some among the Pilgrims were not pure of heart; they were not escaping religious persecution. Indeed, they were not even human. They were vampires. The vampires assimilated quickly into the New World. Rising to levels of enormous power, wealth, and influence, they were the celebrated blue bloods of American society.
The Blue Bloods vowed that their immortal status would remain a closely guarded secret. And they kept that secret for centuries. But now, in New York City, the secret is seeping out. Schuyler Van Alen is a sophomore at a prestigious private school. She prefers baggy, vintage clothes instead of the Prada and pearls worn by her classmates, and she lives with her reclusive grandmother in a dilapated mansion. Schuyler is a loner...and happy that way. Suddenly, when she turns fifteen, there is a visible mosaic of blue veins on her arm. She starts to crave raw food and she is having flashbacks to ancient times. Then a popular girl from her school is found dead... drained of all her blood. Schuyler doesn't know what to think, but she wants to find out the secrets the Blue Bloods are keeping. But is she herself in danger?

I actually read this a couple months ago and am just now getting around to doing a review. One of my good friends had actually lent it to me and made me read it. At first I didn't really want to read it, cause it looked a lot like just another version of Twilight. Man was I wrong! This series is SSSOOO much better than any other vampire series I've read! Right away I had to read the next 2 of course. Then I had to wait for the fourth one to come out and I almost died waiting! Haha.  When I first started this book it was so confusing because it jumped from one character to the next, but probably close to halfway through it started making sense and I got the hang of it. I think this is one of the fastest books I've ever read, it was so good. The characters live in New York, actually this series reminds me a lot of Gossip Girl, only they're vampires. You've got the rich bitch, and her minions, and the loner..well, you know how it goes! If I remember correctly, some of them know they are vampires and there are some (at least one) that has no idea. This is a must read, if your not into vampires, you probably will be by the end of this book!

What’s worse, she can’t even turn to her best friend Ben—because every time she looks at him, all she sees is his betrayal.
But waiting for something to happen is not an option, so Clea is ready for action. Suffering through dreams of seeing Sage with another woman, she makes an uneasy alliance with Sage’s enemies and sets out to be reunited with Sage...in this life or the next.

Happy Thanksgiving Canada!! I just celebrated the last 2 days with family and lots of food, so today I thought I'd celebrate on The Day Of by going out and buying Hilary Duff's new book which was released TODAY! (I thought it was kind of a funny coincidence lol). I can't wait to read Devoted, even though Elixir was a little dry...BUT I've heard this one is supposed to be a little more in-depth, so let's just hope it's true! I really wish they would have stuck with the flower theme though! Have it blue with a similar flower as Elixir or something. Oh well.. Anyway, Happy Thanksgiving! And make sure to eat lots of pumpkin pie, the best part of this holiday!! Cheers!

Want to save $7 on this book? Visit the Book Depository! It's free shipping worldwide (It's where I'm buying my copy! That's $7 toward another book!). Enjoy!

Past Midnight Review

Rating: ♥♥♥♥♥

Let me set the record straight. My name is Charlotte Silver and I'm not one of those paranormal-obsessed freaks you see on TV…no, those would be my parents, who have their own ghost-hunting reality show. And while I'm usually roped into the behind-the-scenes work, it turns out that I haven't gone unnoticed. Something happened on my parents' research trip in Charleston—and now I'm being stalked by some truly frightening other beings. Trying to fit into a new school and keeping my parents' creepy occupation a secret from my friends—and potential boyfriends—is hard enough without having angry spirits whispering in my ear.

All I ever wanted was to be normal, but with ghosts of my past and present colliding, now I just want to make it out of high school alive….

Past Midnight by Mara Purnhagen is everything you'd want for a ghost story! I never wanted to put it down (unfortunately this was not possible, for I had to work lol). Some of it it kind of predictable and really easy to guess what's gonna happen next, but other times it was harder to guess. It really had that creepy-ghost-telling feeling to it, I really enjoyed reading it, I love reading about the paranormal and supernatural. The book starts out with Charlotte moving to a new town (again) and her and her sister Annalise, try to help their parents by contacting a ghost or two in this old, haunted cafe. That's when strange things slowly start happening. What I really liked about this novel, was that it wasn't just about the whole ghost/haunting thing. It's also about Charlotte and her new friends and a dark secret everyone seems to know but her, until she finds out for herself. If your looking for a good ghost series, this is definitely one you should try. Nothing beats Meg Cabot's 'Mediator' series though! But this series is the runner up.

Shattered Dreams Review

Rating: ♥

A copy was provided for review

Sixteen-year-old Trinity Monsour wants nothing more than to live a normal life. But that isn’t as easy as it seems. Trinity is different. She is special. She sees visions, and for those she’s seen, it’s already too late.
Trinity arrives on her aunt’s doorstep in New Orleans with virtually no knowledge of her mysterious heritage. She begins settling into life at a new school and even starts making friends. But all too quickly her dreams accelerate; twisted, terrifying visions of a girl locked in a dark room. And when the head cheerleader, Jessica, goes missing, Trinity knows she has no choice but to step forward with what she’s seen.
But people believe that Trinity has information about Jessica’s disappearance not because of a dream, but because she is involved. She is kind-of dating Jessica’s ex-boyfriend, Chase, and Jessica did pull a nasty prank on Trinity. Revenge seems like the likeliest scenario. Nothing prepares Trinity for the dark odyssey that ensues while searching for Jessica, including the surprising romance she finds with Chase, or the shocking truths she learns, not just about the girl who has gone missing, but the past that has been hidden from her.

It took me a while to read this one, and honestly, I couldn't even finish it. It was a bit hard to follow and confusing in most parts. It's pretty good, the characters are well written, there's lots of mystery and things going on, but I don't know, something just felt like it was missing. I think it could have been written a little better, so things felt more clear and flowed better, not so iffy...I really liked it, but I hope that if there's a second novel to this one, it's written and planned out better. There were also a few parts that seemed to just drag on and I almost didn't feel like picking it up again. It's got good potential, but it could be better.

Wish Review

 Rating: ♥♥

For broken-hearted Olivia Larsen, nothing can change the fact that her twin sister, Violet, is gone... until a mysterious, beautiful gown arrives on her doorstep. The dress doesn't just look magical; it is magical. It has the power to grant her one wish, and the only thing Olivia wants is her sister back.
With Violet again by her side, both girls get a second chance at life. And as the sisters soon discover, they have two more dresses-and two more wishes left. But magic can't solve everything, and Olivia is forced to confront her ghosts to learn how to laugh, love, and live again.
In a breathtaking debut from Alexandra Bullen, WISH asks the question: If you could have anything, what would you wish for?

It took me forever to get through this book, it has a nice idea to it but it's ssooo boring. She gets the dress, her sister comes back from the dead, done. I don't even remember much else besides that, the story dragged on and on, I was pretty disappointed with this novel, it definitely doesn't live up to how good it sounds in the summery.

Claire De Lune Review

Rating: ♥♥♥♥

Torn between two destinies…
Claire is having the perfect sixteenth birthday. Her pool party is a big success, and her crush keeps chatting and flirting with her as if she’s the only girl there. But that night, she discovers something that takes away all sense of normalcy: She’s a werewolf.
As Claire is initiated into the pack of female werewolves, she finds her lupine loyalty at odds with her human heart. Burdened with a dark secret and pushing the boundaries of forbidden love, she will be forced to make a choice that will change her life forever. . . .

This book turned out way better than I was expecting it to. I couldn't wait to read it but when I finally got into it, I had to struggle a bit til I got to the middle, it just felt like nothing was really going on, but then around the middle of the book, things actually started happening and it became really interesting. It was a pretty easy read once things got going, I love the werewolf mythology and over all it's really good. At first I didn't really like Claire's mother, for she was always so strict and controlling, but by the end she seemed to soften and I didn't not like her as much. There was a point in the book when I totally shared Claire's feelings about the pack and Beatrice, the pack leader, when Claire's mother was captured, and I love how Mathew ended up basically accepting the whole werewolf thing and still liking Claire for who she was.

Shiver Review

Rating: ♥♥♥♥♥

Grace and Sam share a kinship so close they could be lovers or siblings. But they also share a problem. When the temperature slips towards freezing, Sam reverts to his wolf identity and must retreat into the woods to protect his pack. He worries that eventually his human side will fade away and he will be left howling alone at the lonely moon. A stirring supernatural teen romance.

The main reason I bought this book was because everyone kept saying how good this series was, so I finally had to check it out for myself, and thank god I did! I love this series! Well, so far I love Shiver, at least. (I bought Linger before I even finished reading Shiver!!). It's so romantic, I love Grace and Sam together. I hated how I kept dreading Sam's turning into a wolf thing though, I didn't want him to change back! When he did I was so devastated, cause I thought he wasn't able to change back ever again. Then I got so excited when Grace and Isobel started figuring out a cure, or what they thought was a cure. I was so shocked when Jack actually died, but I shouldn't have been...thinking back on it now, I guess it was kinda obvious but I so bad didn't want anyone to die! Oh ya, and at the clinic when Shelby shows up again, I was like, really?? WHY couldn't SHE have died?? I got so emotionally attached to some of these characters, Grace and Sam especially. Even Isobel turned out not to be so bad, even the rich snob girl has a human side! I loved this book so much, I can't wait to start reading Linger and see what happens with Sam and Grace next. I highly recommend this series, it's not the typical "werewolf" stuff, it's a bit nicer.

What Happened to Goodbye Review

Rating: ♥♥♥♥♥

Who is the real McLean?

Since her parents' bitter divorce, McLean and her dad, a restaurant consultant, have been on the move-four towns in two years. Estranged from her mother and her mother's new family, McLean has followed her dad in leaving the unhappy past behind. And each new place gives her a chance to try out a new persona: from cheerleader to drama diva. But now, for the first time, McLean discovers a desire to stay in one place and just be herself, whoever that is. Perhaps Dave, the guy next door, can help her find out.

Sarah Dessen never disapoints! This is one one of my favorites out of all the books she's written though. In the beginning, McLean has learned to distance herself from people, learns not to care. This is because of all the moving around her and her dad have done so many times, she doesn't see the point in getting to know people when she's just gonna move anyway...until her and her dad move into this new town and she finds getting to know people isn't so bad after all. Her dad starts his usual work on a restaurant in town, in bad need of a make-over, inside and out, including the menu. This time however, is slightly different. This restaurant seems to need more work and time than any other the other ones, and her dad seems to have found a love interest that's also keeping them from picking up and moving on, not just the restaurant. Slowly McLean gets to know Dave, and finds out there's a lot more to people, starts to see the importance of friendship. I like how McLean begins to come into her own at this new school, instead of trying to act like someone else. This book is so relate-able, and such an enjoyable, easy read. You see the world through McLean's eyes as she goes from actor to the real McLean.
