What Its About!

BIG GIRLS DON'T CRY...
THEY GET EVEN.

Lillia has never had any problems dealing with boys who like her. Not until this summer, when one went too far. No way will she let the same thing happen to her little sister.

Kat is tired of the rumours, the insults, the cruel jokes. It all goes back to one person– her ex-best friend– and she's ready to make her pay.

Four years ago, Mary left Jar Island because of a boy. But she's not the same girl anymore. And she's ready to prove it to him.

Three very different girls who want the same thing: sweet, sweet revenge. And they won't stop until they each had a taste.

Review

I'm kind of torn between giving this book a 3.5 and a full 4 stars. It was good and well written, but I just couldn't fully get into it. I love Jenny Han and Siobhan Vivian, so I was really excited when I got to read an ARC of this. Although I like the book, I just couldnt love it, the characters were mean and mostly immature little school girls with nothing better to do with their time, except get revenge on people. In a way I could understand WHY they wanted revenge, because the other kids were such jerks but on the other hand, another part of me was like why would you stoop to their level and lower, especially after so much time has passed?

We see the everything through the point of view of three main characters. I found it so confusing at first, it was hard to know which character was talking each chapter, until they said something about their lives or something else so we knew which character it was. I think the chapters should have been labeled with their names to make it easier for the reader to follow. Since its an ARC though, they may change this and I hope they do.

The novel is set at a pretty slow and steady pace. It all seemed to be based on the girls coming together and getting their revenge and in the end, went too far. Nothing special or exciting happens, nothing to pull me in the way I wanted to be. There WAS a little (LITTLE) bit of fantasy thrown in, but not enough for me to call it anything but contemporary with a fantasy twist. There were maybe 2 or 3 small instances when something weird happened that was unexplainable, but that was it. Im actually really glad Burn for Burn is only the first book in a new series, because Im hoping the second one will have more depth to it than this book did. Hopefully its one of those series that gets better with each book instead of worse.

If your a fan of Pretty Little Liars, either of the show, books or both, you should really give Burn for Burn a try, theres a good chance PLL fans will enjoy it :)
